Marg and Graham Garett met on a blind date in the 50’s. Last week they celebrated their 70th anniversary, decades together which Marg lovingly summarised as being “unreal”.
Marg said she was 21 when she met 24-year-old Graham at a dance at Centennial Hall in Adelaide.
“One was a police cadet, and one was a nurse,” she said.
The pair moved from South Australia to Esperance in 2002 where they were out on a farm for a while before moving into town.
After years in Esperance, Marg and Graham have found themselves surrounded by a tight knit community who came to join their celebrations with a luncheon on September 11.
“We had a nice little get together with all the people we’ve been mixed up with since we came to Esperance,” Marg said.
Together, Marg and Graham have been stewards of the public service, dance partners, farmers, a mother and father and, for 70 years, husband and wife.
As the two stopped to reminisce on their anniversary, there was no doubt when Marg said, “We’ve had a good life.”
