Primary schools from around Esperance gathered for last week’s cricket carnival hosted by OLSOTS and WA Cricket.
OLSOTS PE teacher Anna Swan said that the yearly interschool carnivals were part of their “have a go” initiative for the students.
“It’s a really good opportunity for kids to have a go and try something new or just get involved in sport,” she said.
“For primary school students it’s just working on their motor skills and teamwork and working on their hand-eye coordination.”
The different schools involved take turns in organising the event with WA Cricket.
Great Southern and Esperance WA Country Cricket manager Jarrod Hansen helped to supervise the event and coordinate the games being played.
The students were able to mingle with different schools and participate in a little friendly competition batting and fielding in rotation.
Swan said the cricket carnival was one of a few interschool events held each year that included a winter sports carnival and an interschool athletics carnival.
Mallee Scorchers (Boys) and the Mallee Renegades (Mixed) went through the day undefeated and took out their respective competitions.
