Local Esperance shearer Peter Black is to be inducted into the World Shearing Hall of Fame.
Mr Black, Peter, who now lives in Boyup Brook, recently returned to Esperance for a few weeks to catch up with about 30 of his shearer friends, mostly retired, and talk about the old days.
His friend Meredith Temple said all four of his sons had been in the shearing game.
“His son Dwayne holds the Guiness Book of World Records for the fastest sheep shorn,” she said.
“And his youngest son Koen has a world record for the most sheep shorn — he shore 604 lambs in eight hours, and Dwayne had previously held that same record at 570 sheep.”
Mrs Temple said the brothers were typically competitive and dad Peter was always there to offer advice and encouragement.
“He also travels around the globe teaching and training on other continents,” she said.
“He is also heavily involved in world records, never thinking he would end up in the Hall Of Fame.
“In a few weeks Peter will accept the induction, albeit humbly, while being watched by Dwayne, Koen and Koen’s eldest son Peter, aged 10 — three generations of shearers from the same family.”
The award will be conferred at the World Shearing Hall of Fame in Hay, NSW, on October 4 and 5.
