From the outback to the ocean

Esperance police officers Matt Lee, Wayne Davies and Meg Cousins.

In February next year, a group of bike riders will be setting off on a unique journey from Kalgoorlie to Esperance.

The Goldfields Outback to Ocean bike ride is a relay of two teams that will cover some 400km beginning in Kalgoorlie in the evening and riding through the night to finish the following afternoon.

The ride is a fundraiser for WA Police Legacy the joint initiative of the Western Australian Police Union of Workers and the Western Australia Police.

According to a WA police Legacy spokesperson, the organisation “provides personal and financial support to the partners and dependent children of deceased and incapacitated WA police officers”.

“There are currently 418 WA Police Widows, seven Widowers and 48 Children that we look after,” they said.

Leading up to the ride, Esperance police are promoting a raffle where ticket holders will go into a draw to win an Austrack Campers caravan.

Tickets for the raffle are $50 and there is limited availability to ensure a one in 2000 chance to win.

People can also get involved by registering to ride or to be a part of the support crew assisting riders along the way.
