An Esperance restaurant has been charged with failing to comply with requirements of the Food Standards code after multiple failed inspections.
The owner of Xing’s Sushi and Noodle on Andrew Street in Esperance was not in attendance at court on Tuesday for the trial allocation for the charges against his business.
The facts given from the prosecution were that on multiple occasions, the restaurant and snack bar produced “unsatisfactory” results in Shire facilitated inspections.
The prosecution said inspectors identified inadequacies such as a build-up of food debris, inconsistently maintained cleaning, layers of dirt in the handwashing area and meat that had been left unrefrigerated for more than two hours.
Additionally, he said chickens and ducks were being kept not in accordance with requirements “right outside” the business and there had been a recorded incident of food poisoning after a customer consumed chicken satay.
Magistrate Randazzo said there was the potential for significant penalties to be imposed, with maximum fines of up to $250,000.
In the restaurant owner’s absence, Magistrate Randazzo adjourned the case for January 6,with the next court date approved for sentencing.
