Three ladies from the Esperance Junior Cricket Association were awarded the Goldfield Regional Cricket Board’s Volunteers of the Month at a presentation before the start of play at the junior cricket matches recently.
Tara Vermeersch (September), Rebecca Bingham (October) and Shyanne Thomas-Mirrielees (November) are all huge parts of the Esperance Junior Cricket Association, doing a power of work to ensure the smooth running of their competition week to week.
The trio were present on behalf of the EJCA at the Albany Junior Cricket Carnival held last weekend for a joint Great Southern C.A/EJCA Under 16s side and the Esperance Under 14s side. The matches served as a final warmup for the squads before appearing at Junior Country Week held in Perth during January 6 to 10 next year.
Vermeesch did a lot of behind the scenes work during the off-season and in the leadup to the competition commencing, sourcing sponsorships from local businesses and applying for grant funding to help setup the EJCA for a successful season.
The funding that was secured has allowed the Junior Association to purchase brand new playing and off-field kits for Junior Country Week, weekly prizes for junior players, as well as other necessary equipment.
Vermeesch is also a team manager for one of the U14s teams and is willing to help out in any other way she can.
Bingham is into her second season as Secretary of the EJCA and is doing an amazing job keeping the association running smoothly.
She organises all of the committee meetings, helps coordinate Junior Country Week, and any other behind-the-scenes admin tasks, all while managing an U14s team as well.
Thomas-Mirrielees has been the Junior Coordinator for the EJCA for a number of years now and has been doing an incredible job in continuing the development of local players and coaches.
She coordinates and runs all of the weekly training sessions for all grades, ensures coaches are found for each team, helping oversee team selection at the beginning and making sure they are fully prepared for the season.
Thomas-Mirrielees has built amazing relationships with all of the coaches and players and is a true asset to cricket in Esperance.
Thomas-Mirrielees is also a trailblazing female in the Seniors competition as a premiership winning captain of the Esperance B-Grade side alongside representing the Esperance Cricket Association at both Men’s and Women’s Country Week.
