Esperance detectives have charged a 24-year-old man after a police investigation into the suspicious fires in Castletown and Bandy Creek a few weeks ago (Weekender February 14).
The man was charged with two counts of wilfully light or cause to be lit a fire likely to endanger or damage.
He was remanded in custody at Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison and is appeared before the Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Esperance Police have put up signs around town to encourage locals to “extinguish arson” by helping police with arson investigations where they can.
“Upon conviction you could potentially get a reward up to $25,000,” detective Sgt Wayne Davies said.
Detective Sgt Davies said CCTV played a big part in the investigation into the suspicious fires and police benefitted from any footage or information that was provided by the community.
