Ravensthorpe Shire is moving to make more land available for Hopetoun Beachside Caravan Park to expand.
On Tuesday Council voted to amalgamate an adjoining block which is currently zoned “recreation” and “parklands”.
Shire president Tom Major said they had been looking for “alternatives that are workable for the community”.

“It makes sense to be combining with the caravan park there and the existing low cost/free RV site has had some issues,” he said.
In her report to Council, a Shire executive manager said this would provide a more cost-effective offering for visitors to the Shire in lieu of the existing 48hr rest area.
“The intent behind this proposed amendment is that the Shire would like to consider a wider range of tourism accommodation development options within the Reserve whilst maintaining its RV friendly status in Hopetoun,” she wrote.
The proposal must now be advertised to comply with state law.
