Last season’s grand finalists, Mallee 1 and United 1 made impressive statements in round four of the Esperance Netball Association Division 1 competition last Friday night.

Reigning premiers Mallee 1, going for an unprecedented fourth premiership in a row, defeated Newtown 1 48-24.

Mallee went on a six goals to nil run to end the first quarter as they opened up a 12-goal buffer at the main break.

The margin was too much for Newtown 1, who couldn’t pull the deficit back to challenge the reigning premiers.

Former Netball WA Premier League player Eliza Vlasich impressed once again in defence as Holly Meiklejohn showed her versatility for Mallee 1 playing in a variety of positions.

Ruby Gordon and Mia Moeauri (18 goals) best served Newtown 1.

Last season’s runners-up United 1 came out of the blocks leading 32-23 at halftime, then dominating the second half, going on to win 66-44.

Luca Daw was a notable contributor for United 1 as Kodey Major (40 goals) and Rani Hotker (26 goals), finished off their teams brilliant work from the midcourt.

Last season’s ENA Division 1 MVP, Dannii Newton, provided 37 goals for the Tigers as Mikayla Barty was awarded Gibson 1’s best player.

Meanwhile, the Esperance Netball Association takes a break from the regular junior fixtures as it sends six sides to the Association Championships to be held in Perth this weekend.

The Association will be represented by teams in the 12s,13s,14s,16s, 20s divisions and a No Limits – Mixed side.
