Youngsters at the Condingup play group are having bounds of fun with their new soft play equipment which the centre purchased through a community grant.

The Shire of Esperance awarded the play group $2,000, which they used to create an indoor play space for the colder months.

The new equipment includes a ball pit and large shapes the children can manoeuvre to create their own play set up.

Condingup play group secretary and treasurer Kayla McDonald said the new equipment had been a hit among the children and would develop crawling, climbing and fine motor skills and help with social development.

“They love it – we bought it for the little ones but the big kids are enjoying it too so it’s been fun seeing them all getting in there and jumping and climbing, it’s been great,” Ms McDonald said.

“We’re only a small part of the Esperance community but it’s had a really great impact on us and it’s something our play group will get many years of enjoyment from.”

The group runs once a week during the school term at the Condingup Primary School and caters for families in Condingup, Beaumont and the surrounds.

Ms McDonald said the play group was one way for young families to connect in a small community.

“It’s great for nurturing relationships between kids and adults,” she said.

“A lot of our kids will be going to kindergarten at Condingup Primary School next year.

“The play group is at the school so they can integrate into the school system quite seamlessly.”

Ms McDonald said the centre had 16 families at present.

She said the grant was secured with help from Condingup play group president Sian Welten and the Condingup District Recreation Association.
