Dune replacement on track

Complaints about odours emanating from the works opposite the RAC village have been addressed, according to Esperance Shire president Ron Chambers.

Sand nourishment works at the beach north and east of the new Esperance Jetty use material piped from Bandy Creek to replace eroded beach sand.

“It hit a patch of decayed seaweed around Bandy Creek when they were dredging,” Mr Chambers said.

He said the pipes, the program and even the contractors were new, and they had been working to make the program more efficient as they intended to conduct dune nourishment every two years.

The work is considered necessary to replace eroded sand, thought to be due to the extra wave energy caused by Esperance port extensions.

The sand placed on the beach will, in turn, wash away rather than allow the road to be undermined.
