Harriett Collins scored a late winner with five minutes remaining as Mallee edged past Furies 2-1 in the Esperance Hockey Association women’s round seven match on Saturday.
Minutes earlier, Renee Dowsett from Furies scored to cancel out the first half goal from Tash McCarthy.
Alongside Collins, who scored her 14th goal from six matches, Mallee’s better competitors were Jolie Delroy and Jess Hardman.

Ruby Hodges, Jacqui Tonkin and Aisha Darlow were Furies better players as they compete for a hat-trick of Women’s premierships.
The win for Mallee means they jump one point clear of Furies on the top of the ladder.
In the other games, Emus barged their way into the top four after a six-nil win against Legs XI and Condingup outlasted Bacchus two goals to one.
Emus had six individual scorers as Janelle Leiper and Holly Young found the back of the net for Condingup, Erin Burnside scoring the lone goal for Bacchus.

Meanwhile the Association had mixed results at a wet and wild CBH Men’s Country Championships held in Perth last weekend.
The Open Division 3 side finished fourth of overall after a 2-1 loss to Miling in the classification playoff on the Sunday.
The Pool A campaign started brightly with wins against Eastern Goldfields (3-2) and Roe (3-0) punctuated by a loss to Avon (1-3) and a two-all draw against Margaret River.
The battered and bruised Masters Division 1 team battled through a tough draw and some quality opposition to finish sixth.
