It took 63 years, but Esperance’s oldest Rotary Club has its first in the chair.

“I am the first female president of the Rotary Club of Esperance, they have been chartered since 1962,” Kelly Starcevich said.

The occasion was the club’s annual changeover meeting and dinner, and the venue was Eliljay’s at the Comfort Inn Bay of Isles.

“The theme for this year for Rotary International is ‘Unite for Good’,” Ms Starcevich said.

“We are really focussed as a club on uniting for good, which for us means collaboration with other community groups and organisations for the benefit of the community.

“This includes continuing our collaboration with Police Legacy WA, with the Rotary Club of Esperance Bay and also with the Lions, and working together to improve the community in whatever capacity we can.”

Rotary district governor Veronica Lawrence attended on the night and presented three members with Paul Harris Fellowships in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world.

“One to Mr Dave Eldwick was for being a charter member and serving more than 75 years as a mason so his service to the community has been vast and varied,” Ms Starcevich said.

Scott Mackie and Ken Jenkyn also received the award for long standing service to the Rotary Club of Esperance and in particular the youth portfolio they have both been involved with.
