Esperance Senior High School’s Tournament of Minds (ToM) Social Sciences team is celebrating after winning the state finals in Perth last weekend.
The seven-members from Years 7-10 are set to take on some of the world’s best creative minds at the international ToM final in Sydney on November 1.
Team members Mikaylah Stephen, Layla Bowkett, Skye Waters, Isabella Scott, Charlie Wooldridge, Libby Gurney, Taylor Gray and facilitator Cara Gurney were thrilled to be named state winners.

The two ESHS teams — together with an Esperance Primary School team — were selected to compete at the state finals where they had three hours to complete a challenge before presenting it to the judges.
In a tough field comprising of mainly Perth schools, both teams performed strongly, impressing the judges with their teamwork and critical and creative thinking skills.
The judges awarded Emily Turner, Sienna Valente, Evelyn Govans, Liam Dutton, Alex Hough, Sharni Martinand Emma Scott the honours award for the language literature challenge.

Their team was facilitated by Kalira Docherty.

ESHS Principal Janet Silburn Barker said the school was immensely proud to have representatives at the state and international events once again.
“We have a strong tradition of our ToM teams excelling at a high level,” Ms Silburn Barker said.
“It is wonderful to see our students’ critical and creative thinking — together with their persistence, focus, teamwork and communication skills — take them all the way to the top.”
