Travelling band Shmoné is bringing an eclectic mix of sounds to Lucky Bay Brewery this Saturday, with a simple goal in mind.

“I want to make as many local legends in Esperance happy,” lead musician Idan Shoham said.

Shmoné uses a loop station and live instruments to execute a variety of genres including reggae, country, folk, waltz music, house, and drum and base.

“It started by me travelling around Australia and playing live music with a loop station and three different instruments including saxophone, guitar and vocals,” Shoham said.

“Now it’s kind of a band and we are basically doing something that is quite new — we live loop saxophone so that creates the rhythmic and subharmonic parts.

“We fuse the full band into it with original songs in English and Hebrew — some singalongs and some upbeat stuff.”

The Israeli artist and founder of the Shmoné project arrived in Australia six years ago and said he got stuck in the country because of Covid.

Shoham said he hopped on the van-life trend while playing music around the country, including in Esperance.

“We always get an amazing crowd in Esperance,” he said.

“Every time I get to Esperance I’m just amazed about how nice people are — it’s definitely one of my favourite towns in WA.

“I hope to see many amazing faces down there.”

Shoham said he picked up other band members as part of his music project and tomorrow he was bringing the “full drum sound”, with a drummer and base player by his side.

“Our focus is really to bring people together and to sing and dance,” he said.

“It’s been driven by what I feel will make people forget about the troubles and be happy — that’s why we have so many singalongs.

“You can see it in our show — it’s very much about being happy which is very different to other music acts I’ve seen around.”

Shoham said his songs were inspired by the places he had travelled, and the people he had met, including “just a little more”, which referenced his times in Esperance.

Shmoné’s loop-style music has taken them to popular festivals across Australia, including Woodford in Queensland and the Byron Bay Bluesfest.

The band will be playing from 5pm-9pm and will be supported by local band, Grand Casual.
