Esperance representatives sworn in to Council

Leonie de Haas and Sam Starcevich were returned to Council with comfortable majorities at this year’s Local Government elections.

They were sworn in alongside newly-elected members Garry McWilliam and Gerry Harp at a special council meeting on Tuesday.

Cr de Haas polled 767 primary votes, followed by Gerry Harp, 534, Garry McWilliam, 379, Alex Barrett, 375, , and Dennis Andre, 290. 

In Rural Ward, Cr Starcevich attracted 714 votes, while Natasha Burnett polled 340.

Freeman Ian Mickel oversaw the councillors’ oath, in which each elected member signed and read a declaration. 

Cr De Haas, Cr Starcevich, Cr McWilliam and Cr Harp will represent the community for the next four years.

Shire president Ron Chambers, re-elected Deputy president Jennifer O’Bourne, Cr Gemma Johnston, Cr Connor Davies, and Cr Wes Graham form the rest of council and are due to serve two more years.
