The highly anticipated second match of the ECA’s Cape Le Grand Slam T20 series between competition favourites Elders Insurance Invincibles and the Lister Electrical Sparks was abandoned in the third over of the second innings as a short sharp burst of rain put paid to the cricketing action on Saturday evening.
The five minute downpour saw the players run quickly from the field, play unable to resume after the rain had stopped.
Earlier, the Sparks had raced to 2-70 in the eighth over, Riley Mayfield was particularly brutal smashing 39 runs from 28 balls, an innings which included one four and three long sixes smashed towards the train tracks.

The Invincibles needed a breakthrough and received several through youngster Tom Tate who ripped through the Sparks top and middle order apart in the twilight conditions to record the impressive figures of 6-21 off four overs.
Tate’s figures could have been more incredible given his bowling was somewhat wayward as he provided 11 wides.
In reply, the Invincibles were 2-8 in the third over, Sparks Brendan Weckert taking both Invincibles wickets in his only over before the downpour hit.

Round two of the Cape Le Grand Slam T20 competition commences tomorrow afternoon with the Elders Esperance derby featuring the Finance Flames and Insurance Invincibles looking for Franchise bragging rights from 2.30pm at the Esperance Cricket Ground.
The RSM Renegades and the Lister Electrical Sparks round out proceedings in the twilight and under lights from 5.30pm, both sides desperate to advance to the winners enclosure before the final round of matches next weekend.
