Big NAIDOC opening

NAIDOC celebrations opened with a big ceremony at Esperance Civic Centre on Monday, following Saturday’s NAIDOC youth ball.

In an indoor cultural induction just before the ceremony, native title group ETNTAC chair Gail Reynolds-Adamson and Jenelle Reynolds explained the parameters of the Tjaltjraak Country and six families.

They then showed several videos and spoke about their duty to be good custodians of the land, their cultural management plans and work on the offshore islands.

Members and staff then gave short talks about each of the eight ETNTAC business units which collectively employ 59 people, before taking questions from the audience.

Everyone was then invited outside for a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremonies.
