The threat of heavy Sunday weather was not going to deter 10 Esperance Cycling Club members, Perth visitor Michael Hackett and three community members from competing in this year’s Southern Ports Tour de Esperance.
Club president Owen Critchley said they were pleasantly surprised with the weather.

“To wake up on a Sunday morning with very little wind and quite nice conditions, the whole morning went off quite well for the riders that we had and the three riders in the community ride,” he said.
There were no pelotons; groups of two or three took off in staggered starts from the Whale Tail for five laps of 11km, all completing the race before the storm broke.

Darcie Richards ended in first place with a combined total time of 90.58 minutes.
She was followed by Stephan Haycock and Michael Hackett (both 91.2); Wayne Karger (94.2) and Tracey Husbands (114.5).
