The Bay of Isles Boxing Club had two members compete at the State Novice Titles held in Perth recently.
On Saturday November 30 the Club saw Liam Stewart compete in his first ever bout at the Cockburn Recreation centre in Yangebup in the semi-final of the 80kg men’s division.
Stewart boxed brilliantly from start to finish against a more experienced and very awkward opponent, unfortunately losing by the smallest possible margin in a split decision (3-2).
The result meant two of the five ringside judges had Stewart winning the contest and the remaining three had the opponent winning.
We are so proud of Stewart and how well he did in his first ever bout and hope to see him bounce back strong in 2025.
The next day the Club had Bronte AhChee fighting in the Female 63kg final at the North Fremantle Croatian Club.
After losing the first round five-nil on all scorecards, AhChee responded well to her coaches instructions, getting back behind the jab, digging deep and going on to win rounds two and three convincingly.
AhChee takes the gold medal back home to Esperance and is now the 63kg Novice State Champion of Western Australia.
This was a very rewarding result for AhChee, who has worked incredibly hard since losing a 3-2 split decision herself back in October at the “Queen of the Ring” tournament held at the Perth Town Hall.
AhChee is nothing short of a super Mum, finding the time to train hard every day while still looking after her three young boys aged two and a half, four and five.
We honestly don’t know how she does it!
Bay of Isles Boxing Club has now been registered through Boxing Australia for about eight months, currently training out of our home gym in Gibson and also utilising the Bay of Isles Leisure Centre facilities.
The club is looking to establish a proper boxing gym in town sometime in 2025 and is currently in the process of looking for suitable premises to lease.
