The Esperance District Football Association hosted the Subiaco Zone Junior Carnival against the Goldfields Football League over the long weekend at Esperance Oval.

The matches were an opportunity for EDFA’s juniors to compete at a carnival type atmosphere against high quality oppositions, all under the watchful eye of Subiaco Football Clubs talent development team, led by manager Stuart Berryman.

Whilst the GFL were winners of five of the six contests, the EDFA Year 10 boys played an exciting brand of football on the Sunday evening gaining a five goal lead at half time, a margin they maintained going on to win by 28 points.

EDFA’s Eli Rickerby was awarded the player of the match award as a clip of his massive mark from that match went viral on social media in the days following.

The weekend provided the Subiaco Football Club with a chance to identify the best talent from the district for the 15s regional carnival in the July school holidays as well as development squads for the 2026 Futures and Rogers Cup teams.

At the conclusion of the Boys A match on Monday, Berryman commended all players for their enthusiasm and skills displayed throughout the carnival, which augurs well for the Lions talent pathway from the Goldfields-Esperance region.

A graduate from previous Subiaco talent development teams from the EDFA, Regan Mott a product of the Gibson Football Club, made his WAFL League debut last weekend against Peel Thunder.

Travis Shearer from the Newtown-Condingup Football Club has cemented a place in Subiaco’s League teams defence this season as Esperance Football Club trio Jacob Wagenknecht, Tahj Mibus, Keiren Douglas and Koopa Walsh (NCFC) all played in the reserves for the Lions.

Rydn Rae-Anthonysz (EFC), Ollie Moeauri (NCFC) and Toby Jones (GFC) have made appearances for the Subiaco Colts in the 2025 season.
