Mallee and Emus could not be separated in the Esperance Hockey Association Women’s qualifying final on Saturday.
Neither side scored a goal after regulation and extra time, so the teams had to settle the result via one-on-ones, the victor gaining a direct route into next week’s grand final.
Leading the shootout four goals to three, Mallee goalkeeper Denise Mackenzie held out the final attempt of Emus Jayme Bergman.
Emus will now meet Furies in tomorrow’s preliminary final after Furies had Condingup’s measure five goals to one in the elimination final.
Furies captain Jacqui Tonkin scored two goals in the win, including a shot on goal that went like a tracer bullet into the Condingup goal after a penalty corner.
Meanwhile, first half goals by Sharks Will Lewis and Castletown’s Bryce O’Neill cancelled each other out as the sides headed to one-on-ones in the Men’s elimination final.
An expert in the one-on-one’s, Towns goalkeeper Carl Hillbrick denied the Sharks players in four straight attempts as his side advanced to the preliminary final three goals to two.
Towns will meet Cascade tomorrow after they were defeated by Rams three goals to one in the qualifying final, Zac Warren with two goals for the victors.
