Drunk mum drove kids

A mother who was driving with her children was fined and had her licence suspended after she was caught with a blood alcohol level almost 2.5 times the legal limit.

The 41-year-old was stopped by police on Sims Street in March and blew a reading of 0.124.

Her two children, both under 11 years old, were in the backseat.

She was fined $1,000 and was disqualified from driving for eight months.

Magistrate William Yoo said she had been a law-abiding citizen for 40 years, worked two jobs to support her family, and had sent a letter of remorse to the court.

He considered her “good character” when handing down her punishment and said she was unlikely to reoffend.

He gave her a spent conviction.
