Fiery competition in junior volunteer brigade

Kalgoorlie hosted the second Goldfields Zone Junior Volunteer Fire Brigade competition for the season on Sunday October 27 with Brigades from Coolgardie, Esperance, Kambalda, North Kalgoorlie and Southern Cross competing for the title of champion Brigade.

It was a well-run hit out with some hundred competitors on the track and in a very intense competition for the eleven event program, Kambalda again proved their dominance with a convincing overall win with 149 points from North Kalgoorlie second with 106 points and Esperance third with 104 points.

The sub junior competition went down to the wire with Kambalda winning with 71 points, Esperance second with 69 points and North Kalgoorlie third with 61 points.

The champion Junior fireman was Toby from Southern Cross with 13 points in front of Devon Willoughby from Esperance with 10 points and Willoughby also won the Junior Boys 100m sprint .

Champion sub Junior fireman was a draw between Rhett from North Kalgoorlie and Nick from Esperance both with 9 points.

Competition was close all day with some tight finishes and all brigades gaining points to be crowned champion Brigade.

The next competition of the Goldfields Zone Junior Fire Brigade Championships is to be held at Kambalda on November 10.

It promises to be a close encounter between all Brigades.

Officials thanked the Juniors for their standard of sportsmanship and skill on the day.
