An unbeaten 49 from 47 balls from veteran opener Paul Pelham was the catalyst for Elders Finance Flames opening round match victory against the RSM Esperance Renegades in the ECA’s new Cape Le Grand T20 competition at the Esperance Cricket Ground last Saturday afternoon.

Set only 97 to win, the Flames had little trouble chasing the required amount with 11 balls to spare, as Pelham (five 4s, one 6) and Shane Liddlelow 28 (two 4s) enjoyed a 51-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Earlier, the RSM Esperance Renegades were bundled out for 96 on the last ball of the innings, Alex Barrett 25 (three 4s) providing the only resistance, as his teammates faltered around him.

The  contest turned in the Flames’ favour when captain Fraser O’Brien opted to take the pace off the bowling introducing Stephan Bedson 2-7(2) and Dimuthu Hathurusinghe 3-16(4) to the attack with significant effect.
