An Esperance man went on a low-key grocery shop with a stolen credit card.

The offender had taken a wallet from an unlocked car at the Esperance Indoor stadium on June 25.

Sgt McDowell told the court the wallet contained a man’s credit card, cash, gift vouchers and identity documents.

She said CCTV footage captured the offender using the credit card to buy tomato sauce and butter from the Castletown IGA.

The court heard he later used the card to buy cigarettes, milk and a chocolate bar and used the IGA gift voucher and cash to buy unknown items.

He was arrested outside the Esperance Boulevard shopping centre.

The offender said he was struggling financially when he got out of prison.

Magistrate Yoo imposed a suspended $350 fine.
