The South East Coastal Bowling League hosted the annual Southern Bowling Zone Inter-League Round Robin Men’s 4s championship for three days of intense competition last weekend.

More than 100 bowlers from the 40 Bowling Clubs of the six Leagues based in the Southern part of WA, stretching from Denmark up to Brookton and all points East, descended on the Esperance Bowling Club.
At the official opening attended by Member for Roe Peter Rundle, Nick Hosking from the Great Southern Bowling League was presented with a medallion in recognition as the new Patron of the Southern Bowling Zone.

Spectators were treated to exhibitions of great bowling contests between the six Leagues, with the competition won by the undefeated Great Southern Bowling League, who took the Clayton Shield and McDonald Trophy back home.
All players were judged for selection for the 20-player Southern Bowling Zone team which will compete at the Inter-Zone Round Robin 4s, at the Emu Point Bowling Club in Albany on February 1 and 2.

Three local players were selected: Esperance’s Michael Colgan and Condingup’s Jayson Fiegert with Callum Williams from Esperance making the team as a reserve.
Colgan will lead for the Feigert-skippered rink, with the duo joined by Konjonup’s Jarved Cowie as the second and Newdegate’s Peter Walker in the third spot.
SECBL President Barry Wroth said planning for hosting the event commenced 15 months ago, and he thanked all the members of the League along with members of the host club Esperance for volunteering to make the event a tremendous success.

Wroth also acknowledged Elders and Southern Ports for their sponsorship of the event.
The SECBL will also host the Southern Bowling Zone ILRR Ladies 4s to be held over the weekend of February 14-16 at the Esperance Bowling Club.
