The Ampol service station on the corner of Dempster and Hicks Street will likely remain closed until mid-September after a fire.

Emergency services received a call from Ampol at around 6:30pm on Tuesday August 19, reporting a fire in the electrical room.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) sent three Esperance volunteer crews who extinguished the blaze within an hour.

DFES said the fire started from a short in the electrical board and did not spread far.

An Ampol spokesperson said the site had some internal damage that required specialist trades to rectify.

They said they were hoping it would reopen sooner than predicted.
