Esperance identity Roslyn Humbles has become the first Western Australian Family Day Care Educator to win a prestigious National Award.
After 25 years working as a family day care educator she has been recognised as the National Educator of the Year in the 2024 Excellence in Family Day Care Awards.
Judges said this was for demonstrating excellence in early childhood education and care and for having an amazing impact on the children in her care, their families and the local community.
She is registered with Wanslea Regional Family Day Care.
The announcement was made on Saturday evening at the Excellence in Family Day Care Awards Gala Dinner in Sydney.
Three category winners were announced (Coordinator, Educator and Service) after more than 5,000 nominations were placed during the year.
Family Day Care Australia Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Paterson, spoke to her incredible achievement.
“As an educator who has given so much to family day care, it was wonderful to see Roslyn named as our 2024 National Educator of the Years,” he said.
“Roslyn’s dedication, passion and love for her role as a family day care educator makes her a worthy winner.
“Having been chosen from thousands of educators across Australia, it is a testament to the vital role she plays in the lives of children and families.”
In its 13th year, Mr Paterson said the Excellence in Family Day Care Awards was the only national awards program dedicated to recognising the outstanding work achieved, and the unique strengths that make family day care the natural choice for many Australian families, and as a career of choice for so many early learning professionals.
The Excellence in Family Day Care Awards highlights one of the largest networks of women in small business in Australia.
Family day care educators are registered with Australian Government approved services and operate from their own homes to provide personalised early childhood education and care to small groups of children in a regulated, high quality natural home environment.
Mr Paterson said the Awards promoted the valuable contribution family day care educators, service staff and coordinators made to more than 74,000 children across the country each day.
“This year’s Awards continue to play a key role in recognising the achievements of those working in the family day care sector on a national level and provide an opportunity to promote the unique benefits of family day care to Australian families,” Mr Paterson said.
