Esperance identity and independent Legislative Assembly candidate Christiane Smith has not succeeded in her bid to win a seat in the WA Parliament.
“One could hope that a good 40,000 people would vote for them,” she posted on her Instagram account.
“But even better, I had 601 people make the effort to go below the line and vote Number 1 for me, so I feel very honoured that I was given your vote.”
Ms Smith is now expected to resume her job as media and communications manager for Esperance Shire, but has not ruled out another tilt at public office in four years’ time.

The WA Electoral Commission has now published a list of successful upper house candidates.
The Animal Justice Party, Australian Christians and Legalise Cannabis Party have one member each.
Liberals have 10, One Nation 2, Greens 4, Nationals 2 and Labor 16.
Labor will therefore need the votes of at least three more members to pass any bill through the upper house, which could be done with the help of the Greens.
