Kelly case adjourned again

The alleged Esperance fraudster who was due for sentencing in Perth District Court on Thursday last week has had her case adjourned for a second time.

Sarah Jayne Kelly, 29, had her sentencing pushed back this time because her defence council is seeking an updated psychological report.

Kelly was convicted on the charge of reckless conduct that may have caused the suffering to a child in her care and non-appearance in court.

Police said Kelly had a feeding tube inserted in one of her sons despite evidence that nothing was medically wrong with him.

They said her actions were part of an elaborate scam in which she falsely characterised herself and her children as victims of serious illnesses.

July will mark the third time Kelly has been summoned for sentencing this year.

Kelly was initially scheduled to face Perth District Court on April 24 but her date was adjourned after she admitted herself into hospital.

In February she was ordered to Esperance court but fled to the east coast with her family days before her scheduled appearance.

Kelly was refused bail in the Perth District Court in early April and remains in custody at the Melaleuca Women’s Prison.
