Kyza’s 10th

Friday night saw local empresario Kyron “Kyza” Smithson celebrate the 10th anniversary of his business Kyza Presents with a free concert at Lucky Bay Brewery, with his own Grand Casual heading the bill.

Grannies, kids and everyone in between were all there and ready to enjoy the night.

Matty McIntyre opened with a set in his signature bluesy style with occasional jazzy chords thrown in, played solo with the capo high on the neck of his Fender Telecaster.

Cup Trumpets were next, with frontman John Ratcliffe borrowing Grand Casual drummer Joe Franzone for the set as his own drummer was off in China “marketing seafood or something”.

As Matt Cooper plays bass for both Cup Trumpets and Grand Casual, it took a single change of front man to prepare the headline act as Kyza took the stage to play with his own band.

He was having too much fun to stay on the stage though, as his cordless mic allowed him to hop down and mosh with the dancing crowd from time to time.

It was the perfect way to end a 41 degree day in Esperance.
