The Esperance Squash Club recently finished their first pennants round of the year with the summer grand finals played out last Friday night.
It may have been cold outside, but the fire was burning upstairs, and Lucky Bay Brewing pizza’s kept the viewers bellies warm.
The four men’s and two women’s teams battled it out for the premiership and prizes sponsored by the crew at Sportspower.
The A-grade ladies’ team of AFGRI (Jacqui Tonkin, Shirelea Garvey, Tessa Hunt) had their work cut out for them with an immediate loss of their fourth teammate Sophie Goodwin on the night.

AFGRI managed to take the games down to points, falling short by only 16 points to the Esperance Comms team of Scherie Fowler, Kylene Tredinnick, Monica Field and Mel Hickey.
Highest points of the season were awarded to the clubs outgoing president and undefeated women’s champion, Jacqui Tonkin.
The most improved player was awarded to Neve Hoffrichter, who only in her first ever season polled an impressive second highest points of the entire grade.
The men’s B-grade the Lucky Bay Brewing team of Tim Harris, Brett Ratcliff, Joe Williams and Wayne Davies took the win over the Sportspower team of Jason Wells, Bill Reid, Sam Burgell & Kyle Sawyer.

In the Men’s A-grade the team of Lucky Bay Brewing – Jacqui Tonkin, Nigel Metz, Jayden Pollard & Phill Arts took the win over the Professionals team of Tim Warren, Colin McArthur, Tom Edwards & Shane Jones.
The season’s highest point winners were Shane Jones in A Grade & Mark Hasselup in B Grade, with Mark Harris taking home the most improved award.
The club also awarded Tammie Florisson & Laurie Fyfe life memberships for their outstanding and continued contribution to the Esperance Squash Club.
Their many accolades and decades of dedication are truly appreciated by all Esperance Squash Club members past and present.

Winter Pennants kicks off early August and finishes early November, beginners through to experienced players of all ages are encouraged to sign up, there are matches to suit every level of squash and is the perfect all-weather sport.
Women’s competition is played Tuesday evenings, and the men play on Wednesday.
