Three-time Lexus Melbourne Cup winning jockey Damien Oliver and the 2024 Lexus Melbourne Cup in Esperance as part of its annual tour.
The Melbourne Cup was in Esperance last Saturday.
No, not the race that stops the nation, but the actual cup which came along with three-time winning jockey Damien Oliver.
The two made appearances at Esperance Senior Citizens centre, the Whale Tail, Greater Sports Ground where it dropped in on junior netball and hockey games, and Esperance Pony Club.
The Cup then turned up for the main event at Esperance Bay Turf Club.
Oliver said the whole delegation was overwhelmed by the local hospitality shown to them.
“I’ve been to a lot of country and coastal towns around Australia, it’s most beautiful one that I’ve seen,” he said.
“I think it’s one of Australia’s best kept secrets here.”
Victoria Racing Club representative Jo O’Shaughnessy said as one of the towns who had successfully bid for the cup to visit, Esperance would be assigned a horse in the Melbourne Cup.
