The EDRA Sports Star Awards Sundowner will be held on Thursday at the Esperance Civic Centre commencing at 5.30pm.
The EDRA Sports Star Awards Sundowner will celebrate the best in Esperance sport including a story of perseverance, resilience, and never giving up from the special guest speaker Steven Bradbury OAM.
The nominees for the Horizon Power Open Sports Star of the Year are Stephen Butler, Tom Edwards, Terri Herbert and Dannii Newton.
Butler’s achievements included participating at the National Veterans Cricket Championships Division 1 Over 55’s and Over 60’s for WA, making the 12-man O55’s Team of the Tournament, the only player from WA to be selected in this team. Butler dominated the local scene earning the Association batting aggregate and average award for the 2023-24 B-Grade Season.
Edwards from the Esperance Hockey Association accomplishments include winning the 2024 EHA Men’s Association Fairest and Best and participating for Esperance at the 2024 CBH Group Men’s Country Championships.
Herbert participated at the WA Masters State Hockey trials and was selected for the O40 women’s team to compete in the 2024 Women’s Championships in Sydney, where the team finished fourth, and was named as the team’s MVP in several matches. Herbert was then selected for the Australia A Team to represent Australia at the 2024 Masters World Cups in Cape Town, South Africa. Herbert was also awarded the EHA 2024 Women’s Fairest and Best playing for Condingup.
Newton was named as the Esperance Netball Association’s Division 1 2024 MVP playing for Gibson 1 and was selected in the Association All Stars Team. Newton also made the ENA U20s team as the captain going on to be the Fairest and Best player for the team at the Fuel to Go and Play Association Championships and was selected to be part of the Great Southern Academy.
The winners of the Horizon Power Open Sports Star, Southern Ports Junior Sports Star, DLGSCI Team of the Year and the EDRA Service to Sports will be awarded at the Sundowner and tickets are available from Rigney and Associates.
