New harbour tours

Southern Ports will be opening all three of its regional ports at Albany, Bunbury and Esperance simultaneously to the public through free community boat tours for the first time in its history.

The tours will be held on Friday and Saturday, October 10 and 11, providing a glimpse of port operations from the water while also learning about the ports and the products they trade from Southern Ports staff on board.

Originally due to take place in May, rough seas saw the tours postponed.

Southern Ports Chief Executive Officer Keith Wilks said with the weather warming, it was the perfect time to reoffer the chance for the community to get up close to port operations in a safe way.

“We’re proud of the economic contribution we make, and we’re excited to give our communities who live and work right beside us the opportunity to see and hear more about our operations,” Mr Wilks said.

“We’re lucky to work in such a unique environment — not only in terms of the scale of our operations but the size of our infrastructure and the vessels that visit — and we’re hoping these tours provide people with a new perspective of our ports.”

The tours are free, but Southern Ports is seeking gold coin donations on the day, with all proceeds to Foodbank.

The 45-minute tours will run from 9am to 4.45pm on both days.

Spots are limited and the free tickets must be booked online via the Southern Ports website at southernports.com.au

Attendees who had previously booked have first preference of tickets.
