No ship fire

Despite reports to the contrary, Southern Ports say there was no fire on a ship escorted to Esperance Berth 1 on Monday.

“Prior to pilotage, the vessel had been burning heavy fuel oil as part of its vessel operations which caused some smoke,” a spokesperson said.

“As part of its entry conditions, the vessel was requested to change its fuel source to diesel before it could enter the Port of Esperance, which stopped the generation of smoke.

“Mayuree Naree berthed at the Port of Esperance as planned and will shortly commence loading of 25,000 tonnes of wheat before it heads to Bahrain.”

According to the website Marine Traffic, the Mayuree Naree is a Thai-registered bulk carrier 178 metres in length.
