A young man was issued a fine after he “lost his cool” at the Boulevard shops in January.
CCTV captured Zane Vincent, 22, punching a man who was known to him at a self-service checkout in broad daylight.
The offender’s defence lawyer said the victim had been making disrespectful phone calls to Vincent’s nan and aunt which had made him upset.
Magistrate Lyons accounted for his age, limited prior record and absence of aggravating factors but said other members of the community should not have to witness that type of behaviour.
Vincent was rewarded a 25 per cent discount on his sentence and fined $800.
