Opposition leader invited to Esperance

WA Opposition leader Basil Zempilas is invited to visit Esperance and the Shire is seeking his support.

In a private member’s motion, deputy Shire president Jennifer Obourne moved to invite Mr Zempilas to inspect the Shire’s worker accommodation project, which is yet to attract any State funding.

Councillors supported the motion 7-0 when they met on Tuesday.

The Shire wishes to build two blocks of flats on land behind the Council offices.

The move came after Esperance Chamber of Commerce and Industry, of which Cr Obourne is Executive Officer, surveyed local businesses.

The survey identified about 60 job vacancies which could not be filled because applicants did not have their own accommodation.

Mr Zempilas has been contacted for comment.
