Esperance is invited to a new pizza restaurant and craft brewery which opens next week.
Proprietor Ed Rhode offers pizza and beer based on his own recipes, and both only available on the premises.
Originally from the USA, Mr Rhode made pizza in his youth and has been brewing for more than 40 years.
“It but was a hobby at one time and it turned into an obsession to perfect a beer that was mid-strength, the low and alcohol full-bodied that not only that I enjoy, but everybody else enjoys also,” he said. “Several years ago, I found the right formula and the right recipe and the right processes.
“I’ve been making this beer and repetitively for a long, long time now.”
Many of his friends urged him to sell the product of his hobby.

“Well, making beer is easy — selling beer is the hard part,” he said.
“You know, you need to have a venue or a facility that attracts people to more than just beer. Beer becomes an add on to it.”
While he prides himself on his beer, Mr Rhode said he had no interest in competing with the the hundreds of craft beers available to retailers.
“We looked for a place around Esperance to open up a micro brewery with a food venue,” he said.
“And the idea of pizza and beer has always gone down well. Pizza and beer go together.”
Mr Rhode said he was able to offer an excellent pizza.
“Back in my youth, I was taught how to make a very premium dough by an old Italian gentleman who never talked to me, always yelled at me,” he said.
“The only challenge I had in replicating that recipe was working with the ingredients available here in the local area.
“I spent many months perfecting that recipe to get it just right and I’m proud to say that it’s an extremely delicious dough.
“Very fluffy, very flavourful, has a lot of body to it and it’s very easy on the stomach.”
Pizza & Porter opens on Tuesday, April 1.
