The Esperance Amateur Swimming Club attended the 2025 WA Country Pennants in Mandurah over the March long weekend.
Thirty-two clubs from all over regional Western Australia arrived in Mandurah to compete over the two days with more than 2500 competitors and spectators present.
All competitors in their respective clubs were divided into five grades, Esperance being in D-Grade after performing well last year in Kalgoorlie.
The Esperance Sea Dragons took a team of eleven swimmers, competing in 41 events and achieving thirty personal bests.
All of our swimmers come home with individual medals and relay medals.
Our eleven swimmers were Jasper McArthur, Judd Major, Isabella McArthur, Isabella Major, Jayden Attard, Everlee Major, Bailey Fiegert, Jack Harris, Lawson Baker and Jason McArthur.
Our team was small in numbers but mighty in spirit with eight-year-old Jasper McArthur making a debut on the competitive swimming world.
Jasper made the biggest splash with winning his first heat of 50 metres breaststroke and coming fifth out of 16 competitors in his first swim for Esperance.
He placed seventh in the 50m Freestyle and ninth in the 50m Backstroke and it was an impressive effort for his first swim in an Olympic sized pool.
Esperance’s other younger swimmers all did personal best times in all their individual swims within their age groups with some of our swimmers swimming up in higher age groups.
These swimmers held their own pace and represented Esperance at a higher level than they expected bringing home new times and medals as their reward.
Our older swimmers who travelled from Perth to join us, Bailey, Jack and Lawson, swam against a former Esperance swimmer (Ben Murgatroyd) who was swimming for Gingin Swimming Club.

It was great to see all these boys back in the pool, representing Esperance and enjoying a healthy competition between clubs and they all went home with medals, personal best times and great memories made.
The Western Australian Country Pennants brings all country swimming clubs together in different regions to compete.
This competition creates comradeship, friendships and personal growth in a swimmers journey. Personal best times and competing at this level give the country swimmers the opportunity to experience the competitive side of the swimming world.
Our swimmers love this weekend away and it would not be possible if wasn’t for our dedicated parents for the organisation to get our swimmers to this competition.
Esperance swimming club would also like to thank our sponsors Coastal Climate Choice and Quick N Clean for our amazing team shirts.
A special thanks to Jason McArthur for being a reserve on our team. Congratulations to all our swimmers and let’s start planning for the 2026 Country Pennants in Karratha.
