People wishing to support seabird rescue, native plant propagation and the local wildlife hospital can now make a tax deductable donation.
The Esperance Wildlife Sanctuary is a not-for-profit charity which has just gained deductable gift recipient status.
“It’s big milestone for us,” coordinator L-A Shibish said.
“This allows any donation over $2 to be tax deductable for the giver.

“This will assist with the operations of the Esperance Wildlife Sanctuary in their holistic approach to rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife, and at the same time restoring native habitat through their seedling nursery and planning projects.”
She gave a recent example whereby they partnered with Scaddan Primary School.

“Hakea laurena (pincusion Hakea) seeds were provided to the students and they were taught how to plant them,” Ms Shibish said
“We were also growing some in the nursery for the 10th anniversary memorial of the Esperance bushfires and the seedlings will be planted in the Scaddan area.
“On average we grow over 1000 native seedlings a year.”

Esperance Wildlife sanctuary is an incorporated association with several departments including the native seed nursery, invasive species management, and Esperance SWIRL Seabird and Waterbird Injury Rehabilitation and learning Centre which runs the wildlife hospital.
“In the first six months of 2025 we have admitted just over 100 wildlife in need,” Ms Shibish said.
“Some ongoing expenses are soil for the seedlings, feed for the wildlife and medical expenses.”
