Last week, Esperance Shire workers cleared seaweed from the town beach, gathering a pile of considerable height.

The weekender previously spoke to members of the public who were disappointed by how little maintenance the beach had received (Weekender 07/04).

Before it was cleaned on Friday, the shoreline nearest to the groyne had been covered in seaweed and the access points to the beach were obstructed with sand and weeds.

An excavator was driven back and forth along the beach to collect the seaweed into a pile that was lifted onto the grassed section of the foreshore.

Returning to the site on Monday, majority of the seaweed had been cleared away with small piles on the rocks near the groyne.

Beach access points were still obstructed by mountains of sand, making it impassable for people on wheelchairs and other mobility aids.
