Coastal Warriors search for a hattrick of Esperance Cricket Association A-Grade premierships commenced with a solid 185-run win against Esperance on the back of a man of the match performance by Jevan Tholstrup.
Tholstrup, batting at number 10, arrived at the crease with the Warriors on 8/161 and proceeded to smash 41 not out from 51 balls as the Warriors posted an imposing 240 against the newly-promoted Bulldogs.
Veteran Wayne Martin, entering his fifth decade of competition with Esperance, proved his experience snaring 3/29 from 6.5 overs as Captain Liam Baines recorded 3/50 from his allocated nine overs.
Batting under lights at Esperance Oval, the Bulldogs had no resistance to the Warriors bowling lineup, bundled out for 55 in the 16th over, Tholstrup managing career best figures of 6/18 from seven overs.
In the other round one A-Grade contest, Newtown defeated Cascade by 53 runs.
Daniel Styles was the man of the match for the Demons scoring 59 with the bat and recording figures of 4/16(9) with the ball.
Tomorrow’s round two match between Esperance and Cascade will see the battle of the Warren brothers, Lachie and Zach, take centre stage as the Bulldogs look to improve on their opening round performance in the day-night contest at the Old Oval.
Coastal Warriors will look to continue their winning start for the 2024-25 season on Sunday, hosting Ports who had the bye in round one.
The match is to be played at Gibson oval starting at 10am.
